MEET JUDY ARNOLD, THE ROLLER DERBY QUEEN

In this episode we meet Judy Arnold, Roller Derby Queen. From her book introduction (they wrote it way better than I could!) At the height of her professional Roller Derby career, Judy Arnold was considered the greatest female athlete to grace the banked track. Roller Derby became a part of her life when Judy was just 16, and her career quickly took off. Judy made regular TV appearances, traveled around the world, and competed before thousands of fans, who would join in unison chanting, "Judy! Judy! Judy!" She was the stunt double for Raquel Welch in the motion picture "Kansas City Bomber." Then, while at the top of her game, Judy chose to walk away from it all, a decision that left her fans and teammates stunned... Judy was inducted into the National Roller Derby Hall of Fame in 2004. In June of 2022 at the yearly Roller Derby reunion, she received a plaque in recognition for her many contributions to banked track skating, which states "In appreciation of Judy Arnold's devotion, love of the sport, and service to the craft, we desire that there should be a permanent record of gratitude for her gift to the sport." In addition, each year the Roller Derby Reunion Committee grants the "Judy Arnold Award" to an individual who makes an outstanding contribution to banked track skating.
