I Tried R&F Drawing Oils: A Cézanne-Inspired Sketchbook Experiment

Hello Creative Souls 💖 It’s meteorological spring, and the first brave flowers in the garden are finally appearing. After a quiet wander outside, I come back in to look again at the landscape painting I started downstairs last week – noticing what’s working, what isn’t, and what I might try next time. Then it’s upstairs to the studio (with a cup of tea, of course) to play in my sketchbook with R&F Drawing Oils. I’ve been really inspired by Cézanne’s landscapes lately, especially the beautiful tree on the cover of this Cézanne book, so today I’m doing a loose tree study, learning from his shapes, colours and brush marks. These R&F oil pastels are gorgeous but they do develop a hard film on the outside, so I’m experimenting with a little linseed oil to take that skin off. It helps the colour glide across the page so much more easily, and it turns out linseed oil is brilliant for cleaning the sticks up afterwards too.
