Cordless tools have changed the way we work, but vacuums have always been the weak link—weak suction, clogged filters, and dead batteries halfway through cleanup. In this video, I went hands-on with Milwaukee’s new M18 FUEL Nexus Vacuum System to see if it actually fixes those pain points with a modular approach instead of just chasing more power. I break down the three core pieces: the 6-gallon wet/dry vac (0914-20), the dedicated debris separator (0990-20), and the dedicated filter cleaner/HEPA setup (0991-20), plus how Milwaukee intentionally prevents you from stacking everything together so you have to prioritize debris separation vs. HEPA filtration. To test it, I laid out exactly 2 lbs of sawdust in a confined space and timed pickup across configurations. Pickup speed was basically identical—about a minute and a half—but what mattered was what ended up in the filter. The base vac trapped about 1 lb 4 oz in the filter, the debris separator left less than 1/10 oz, and the HEPA filter cleaner setup left about 8 oz (as expected with finer filtration). My takeaway: if you want efficiency and less filter clogging with mixed debris, the separator is the star; if you’re dealing with drywall or concrete dust, the HEPA configuration is the right call—even if the system cost adds up fast.
