How to Research for Illustrations

Bryce Kho shares his process for creating a Spirited Away fan art piece. He began by studying Miyazaki's style, sketching characters to get comfortable. Through thumbnails, he explored compositions and chose one with Sen and Haku flying over a night market, inspired by his experience in Taiwan. He focuses on unifying the color palette and adding lighting to create the desired atmosphere. Incorporating personal experiences into his art helped him connect more deeply, and he thinks that connection shows in the final piece.
