Here's my YouTube content strategy - from keyword research to AI-powered topic research. When I first started on YouTube, I was doing what most creators do. Looking at what other channels were making, going with my gut, throwing ideas at the wall. The channel wasn't growing. What changed everything was when we started treating the channel like a business and leaned into the search side of YouTube. Instead of guessing, we started looking at what people were actually searching for - the exact keywords and phrases they were typing into YouTube and Google - and then we'd make those videos. That approach helped us grow to where we are now. But the YouTube algorithm has gotten much smarter since then. It understands video content at a much deeper level now and has gotten really good at surfacing the right content to the right person. So I've added another layer to how I find video topics for YouTube. Using AI tools and our own analytics data, I can now see which videos are actually driving results for the business, not just views. I'll walk you through my full process for picking brand new video ideas, deciding which older videos to update, and how search volume, performance data, and AI all play a role in every decision. This is the YouTube content strategy I wish I had from day one. Related Content • How to Create a YouTube Channel in 2025! About This Video

There’s a really good chance your most viewed videos aren’t your best videos. For a long time, creators (including me) default to whatever YouTube says is “performing” — views, impressions, watch time — and then we make more of that. The problem is YouTube is great at telling you what gets views, but it doesn’t tell you what happens after the view: leads, email signups, affiliate clicks, and the stuff that actually builds a business. In this video I break down the exact process I use now to decide what we make on Primal Video, and it comes down to five overlapping signals. First, I start with what I’m genuinely excited about (because that energy shows up on camera). Then I look at what’s already proven and should be updated or remade — especially anything older than a year that’s still driving leads. Next I use that data to generate related topic ideas (not random guesses), and I sanity-check everything through the viewer’s lens: pains, problems, and what they’d actually click. Finally, I validate with search data and keyword research so we’re showing up when people are actively looking for help — and then I turn the topic into stronger titles with AI. The big shift is using deeper tracking (like Video Stats) so we stop guessing and start making videos that grow the channel and the business.
