I found my grandmother listed in the 1940 census, and it made me pause. Even though my parents came to the U.S. later in life, my family’s presence here goes back further than I always think about. She lived through segregation, before civil rights, and that kind of history shapes perspective in ways that don’t always get discussed. It made me realize why I may see things differently compared to other first-generation children of immigrants. Sometimes understanding where you come from explains how you move through the world. #AncestryDNA #panama #FamilyHistory #PrettyIsPolitical
