#frugalliving #nospendmonth #suburbanhomestead As July rolled in, our No Spend Month has continued! This week rather than shopping at the grocery store, we are shopping from our pantry. From canned meats, vegetables, and canned convenience foods, we are saving money this week by using what we have. Plus, all these budget friendly meal ideas can be prepared in under 30 minutes for those busy week nights. So grab your favorite beverage and let's go to the basement to shop! Cheers to Saving Money! ~Marie Fermented Pickle Recipe (In this recipe I used a 1/2 gallon Mason jar) 5-6 Pickling Cucumbers 8 cups Distilled or Filtered Water (do not use tap water) 6 TBLS Sea Salt 3 Garlic Cloves 1 TBLS Dill Seed Plus fresh Dill if you have it 1/2 tsp Black Tea leaves I added the leaves from a Blackberry Bush, You can also use Rasberry leaves or Grape Leaves (It is ok to omit all together if you don't have any of the leaves) 8 Peppercorns 1/4 Red Pepper Flakes (can omit if you don't care for spice) Dissolve the salt in your water. Layer the rest of the ingredients in the mason jar and por salt water over. Use a weight to keep contents below the water line and let sit on counter for a week to two weeks depending on how warm your house is. If the house is on the warmer side, the pickles will ferment faster. End result should taste like a kosher pickle. Enjoy!
