This documentary explores the rise the Rococo, it's many icons, and the rise of European Neoclassicism in opposition. Rococo art emphasizes grace, ornamentation and asymmetry; Neoclassical art is based on the principles of simplicity and symmetry, which were seen as virtues of the arts of Rome and Ancient Greece, and were more immediately drawn from 16th-century Renaissance Classicism. Featuring artists: Jean-Antoine Watteau, François Boucher, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin, William Hogarth, Thomas Gainsborough, Joshua Reynolds, Jacques Louis David and John Singleton Copley.
