Now that our dogs have a general understanding of what a loose leash is, we want to begin to work on adding duration. This means that we want to try to take more steps between each click and treat. As we do this we want to vary how many steps we take between each click and treat and we want to make sure it doesn't always get harder. We want to be unpredictable and we want our dog to have some easy wins! Work your dog for 2-3 minutes and then allow them to stop and sniff. This way your dog gets a mental break and is ready to jump back into work. Dealing with distractions: As distractions approach you will want to increase how often you click and treat so that your dog knows it is better to stay with you than engage in the distraction!
