Do students practise retrieval when they study on their own? Memory, 17(4), 471–479.
I included this study because it connects to a common problem I see: a lot of students default to passive review instead of retrieval practice on their own. Active recall takes more effort (and can feel frustrating), but it’s the kind of effort that actually translates to better memory and exam performance.
