I tested the Melonare MA1 straight in—no pedals—so you can hear what it really does. For around $50, the clean channel and reverb sound great, it gets loud, and Bluetooth makes backing tracks stupid easy. Just don’t buy it for the built-in overdrive if metal is your main goal—use it as a clean pedal platform.

Pros

  • +Gorgeous clean tones for the price
  • +Built-in reverb sounds great
  • +Bluetooth works well for backing tracks
  • +Gets surprisingly loud and is very portable
  • +USB rechargeable and lightweight
  • +Drum loops with tap tempo and independent drum volume

Cons

  • -Overdrive/distortion channel isn’t great for metal
  • -Speakers can start to give out when pushed hard
  • -Drum loops are very simple
