Welcome back to our Uni-Vibe series—where we try vibes from some of our favorite builders and still argue about whether the drive goes before or after the vibe. In this episode, we’re checking out the RFO Electronics Real Vibe II. Jeff at RFO told us it’s basically the same guts as the Real Vibe I, but in a much smaller, more board-friendly box (and yes…it’s purple, and I’m into it). You’ve still got Level, Depth, Speed, the chorus/vibrato toggle, and—importantly—the cancel feature that a lot of vibes don’t include. We run the Real Vibe II through its paces with our usual clips (American Strat on chorus, then PRS SE NF 53 on vibrato), and then we start turning knobs. Biggest takeaway: we learned (again) that you don’t have to dime the depth to get the effect—Jeff’s suggestion of starting around 2–3 on depth actually sounded killer. We also demo the cancel feature as a “leave the pedal on” preamp/level thing, chase a little “That Leslie Sound,” and then pair it with drive and fuzz (both after the vibe this time) using a Keeley Super Rodent and a TL Pedals Stinger Fuzz. Final thoughts: it was easy, it sounded great right away, and both sides of the toggle were actually usable—which is not always the case.
