Season 1 Episode 1 'Pilot': Raines investigates the murder of a young college student, Sandy, who he discovers is involved in prostitution. A woman who suspects her husband of cheating on her hires Sandy to try to seduce him and catch him in the act. Sandy makes no progress with the man, who is truly devoted to his wife so Sandy tries to return the money. When Sandy threatens to tell the woman’s husband what is going on she is shot in the back. As it turns out Sandy was working to raise enough money to help her mother escape an abusive husband.
