About This Video

RAM prices are finally falling for the first time since October, and yeah—two thumbs up from PC gamers. In this video I break down what’s actually driving the drop, and it’s basically the AI panic trade starting to unwind in real time. The big headline: Sam Altman/OpenAI’s attempt to lock up around 40% of global DRAM supply looks like it collapsed because it was never a real contract—just letters of intent. That initial announcement kicked off the whole "RAM crisis" as hyperscalers and OEMs rushed supply, and regular builders got left in the dust. I also walk through April 2026 pricing for DDR4 and DDR5, including what I’m seeing on common “bellwether” kits and why availability looks way better than it did a couple months ago. DDR4 16GB kits are sliding back down (and 32GB DDR4 is getting a lot more sane again), while DDR5 is improving but still stubbornly expensive—especially 32GB kits that are often still clustered around the mid-$300s. My main takeaway: if you’re building within the next year, combo deals are still the best way to dodge the worst pricing. Waiting might pay off, but the “back to sanity” moment for DDR5 32GB probably isn’t until Black Friday, and possibly not until 2027.
