In this video I run through four simple “brain games” you can play at home to stop boredom and get your dog thinking. For the sake of this session I treat mind games and scent games as the same thing—because in the real world, getting your dog to use their nose and their brain usually happens together. The first one is a basic hide and seek setup, and it does rely on a solid stay so you can actually create the search picture without the dog just following you. From there I use quick, reward-based little puzzles like “which hand?” and a straightforward “find it” scatter/search. You’ll hear me counting treats down (“five treats left… all gone”) because I like keeping sessions short, clear, and winnable—your dog should be successful and keen to do the next rep. The big takeaway is that you don’t need fancy equipment: a stay, a release, and clean reinforcement (“leave it… get it!”) go a long way. These games build focus, impulse control, and confidence, and they’re an easy way to add enrichment to your training week.
