Being Disliked

UNEDITED: Episode 8 - The Prison I Built to Be Liked For years, I edited myself. Softened my opinions. Hid parts of who I was. Posted only the “safe” content. All because I was terrified of being disliked. And you know what that got me? An audience that liked me... as long as I was useful to them. The second I stopped providing free value or showed up as a real person? Gone. I saw this quote recently that hit me like a freight train: “You must develop the ability to be disliked in order to free yourself from the prison of other people’s opinions.” Not that you WANT to be disliked - but that you can HANDLE it when it happens. This year with the Unedited series, I started showing up imperfectly. Sharing opinions that might not land with everyone. Telling stories that made me look human instead of polished. Some people left. But the ones who stayed? They actually STAYED. Not for what I could give them, but for who I actually am. Here’s what I’m learning: when you’re willing to be disliked, you finally give the right people permission to actually like you. The REAL you. How many dreams are we not chasing, boundaries we’re not setting, truths we’re not speaking... all because we’re afraid of being disliked? That’s not strategy. That’s a prison with nice furniture. I’m done shrinking to fit into other people’s comfort zones. I’d rather be genuinely known by a few than superficially liked by many.
