We Neglected our Missouri Ozark Chestnut Farm? Now we need to fix it. We have not been taking care of our chestnut farm like we should. We have had a lot of real life issues the past two years, Well actually we can go back four years. In the last four years we have had 3 deaths in the family and went through a cancer battle. Currently we are fighting a water problem, or I should say a lack of. We had our well drilled a little over a year ago, and at the end of 2024 we decided to get the plumbing and pump for the well installed so we could finally have water. Well, wouldn't you know, now our well has no water in it, We never got to use it. Now we need to take care of the things that got neglected, Like our orchard and our firewood. Our chestnut orchard is severly overgrown with grasses of some sort, and a few trees are bent over and damaged. Our firewood inventory has been sitting on the ground for two years and we need to salvage what firewood we can. We decided to tackle the firewood first, we did not want to let that firewood sit there any longer. We were hoping we could salvage a good bit of it. It seems the stuff in the middle of the pile was preserved pretty well and still in great shape. so far we have managed to save about two thirds of what we went through so far. The grass in the Chestnut Orchard can wait a little longer, we plan on throwing down clover and grass seed in the orchard before cutting it. We will take care of the leaning trees soon, if they can be simply stood back up, thats what we will do. If not, we will pull them up and replace them.
