But as with everything in a centuries-old stone home, it’s not as straightforward as it seems. We carefully measure and map out every line to ensure the tiles run perfectly through the kitchen and living space, working around bowed walls, stone pillars, and uneven plaster. From cutting intricate shapes (including perfect circles for floor outlets) to learning from a few rookie mistakes, this phase pushes our patience and precision to the limit. At the same time, life on the land continues 🌱 With the help of our friends, we plant vetiver grass to stop erosion on our terraces (a game-changer for land management), and we adopt four mature orange trees—giving them a second life on our property. We even attempt a little “tree surgery” using comfrey to heal a split trunk. Inside, we remove our cozy winter fireplace, marking the transition into a new season—both in the mill and in our journey. This is one of those episodes where everything is happening at once: building, planting, learning, laughing, and slowly turning this old watermill into our dream home.
