Hello again, it’s adventurers — I’m back with more Starfield testing, but this time I built a system aimed at Bethesda’s recommended specs to see what you can actually expect at 1080p. I swapped things up from my last “team red” minimum-spec test and went team blue + team green: an i5-12400F paired with my old RTX 2080, 16GB of 3600MHz RAM, and the game running off a SATA SSD (because yes, it still works fine — your load times just won’t be as snappy as NVMe). The goal was simple: does “recommended” finally mean smooth gameplay, or are we still fighting the game? What I found was honestly mind-boggling. At 1080p High in Aquila City, the RTX 2080 was basically pinned and I was still hovering in the mid-30 FPS range — way too close to what I saw on the minimum requirements PC. Since Starfield doesn’t ship with DLSS, I used the DLSS/FSR bridge mod and tested scaling to claw back performance. DLSS helped, but to get into “playable” territory I still had to really tweak settings (Medium + upscaling), and the gains weren’t what you’d expect from better hardware. The big takeaway: right now the game feels seriously unoptimized, and “recommended specs” don’t magically get you a locked 60 at 1080p without compromises.
