Starfield just dropped, and the internet immediately started arguing about PC optimization and the “minimum specs.” So I did what I always do: I built a PC to match the minimum requirements as close as possible and tested it with real numbers. For this run I used a Ryzen 5 2600 (non-X, but basically the same ballpark), 16GB of RAM, and an RX 5700 8GB (non-XT). I also installed the game on a SATA SSD on purpose, because I wanted a worst-case scenario instead of stacking the deck with the fastest NVMe possible. In 1080p, low settings, I was seeing roughly ~50 FPS in a lighter outdoor spot, dipping into the high 40s in the busy city area, and the game stayed playable without major stutter. Interiors were way better—often 60–75 FPS depending on the scene. I tested FSR2 and different presets, and honestly FSR wasn’t my favorite here because it made faces and distant details look blurry and weird, plus you can feel a bit of input lag. My takeaway: yes, the game runs on minimum specs, but it’s not how I’d recommend playing Starfield—if you’re building for this game, I’d aim for recommended specs or higher.
