Retro Fi
Retro Fi is Waves’ first true dedicated lo-fi plugin, and I like how fast it gets you that old-school aesthetic without doing a whole bunch of extra routing. The Noise section is crazy versatile, and the Space module (echo + plate/spring reverb) is good enough to use even outside of lo-fi.
“yo what's up everybody it's your bustling aka mr different back we're into the video been sick i am not good in the winter time i always get sick in the wintertime i just hate the winter but anyway i'm back feeling a little bit better and we're gonna do a video today about the brand new plugin from the guys at waze their new plug-in called retrofi their first true i guess low-fi plugin where they're just strictly going for the lo-fi aesthetic with this plug-in so dope it came out this monday on the cyber monday deal which is actually been extended i don't know for how long probably a couple more days probably you know who knows how long prior to this weekend so definitely click in the description below links in the description below to do that i think this is you buy two plugins you get two plugins free so even if you don't get this plugin still go buy some cheap plug-ins and get two free plug-ins i mean come on but anyway today we're gonna look at retrofly retro phi and check it out see what you see what it sounds like see this is a blowfire plug-in worth your money so let's go ahead too so here we are right now inside of fl studio i got retro five pluto as you see retrofi looks exactly like the lo-fi space basically like i said like i said in my previous video my review low five space it's basically the full version low five space is just like the single module right here which is low five space and now they give you the full version which would be retro five gives you everything else that you need in here so we're gonna go through every individual component show you what it do show what we got going on and actually check out retro fire still to sound like and see if it's something you like so let's go ahead and play this little beat i got with retro fight and i'll turn it off so you can see exactly how much it's doing to the beat [Music] so [Music] so yeah i mean does it sound low fi sounds pretty good so let's go through retrofi and exactly what goes in into it and then i'll go through some presets like that near the end and then you know i'll give you my thoughts about this so what is retro5 basically it is a lo-fi plug-in a the first light true dedicated lo-fi plug-in that does everything in the lo-fi space and all that good stuff so let me go ahead and pull up we're gonna you know pull up this guitar all right so here's retrofire here and this is all as i said so first you got the device sticks and the device is gonna be i guess say the input of how everything works or how everything goes through so you have a few different things so you have the device type which basically is like a eq curve or a frequency response with a tone where you can kind of shape the tone uh you have this styler which is basically like the the style or the the year that this is kind of emulating so you got 80 70 60s all the way to 50s and i'll show you what that do you have this squeeze which is basically a compressor and you have this ringer which is like ring modulation so for example i only got the device set up and we'll just play this first let me go ahead and solo it [Music] so you see the device just kind of changes the eq response of the frequency response do you have the style or which would be like the kind of year it was kind of made [Music] let me turn that one off [Music] so yeah so i did have one on the master channel which i didn't mean i meant to turn off but anyway do you got squash which i better say just a compressor [Music] apparently i'm better on transit material which will probably come back on the drum channel and i'll play around there ringer which i think is ring modulation [Music] do you have a mix knob of course which you know determine how much of this uh this device you want [Music] so you get some pretty good stuff right there you can lock it as well if you want to do that as well so yeah pretty dope so you do some pair looking process and all that kind of stuff next you have the space section which basically is from the lo-fi space plug-in so it has your echo your reverb you got both plates you got plate and spring for the reverb and you got echo which ping pong and i did a video about this and kind of explained this but you know basically with the echo the more feedback you get the more distortion the more uh feedback you get and then with the play and the reverb you get some nice kind of old-school vintage sound and reverbs [Music] thank you [Music] i mean just a little bit of the space sounds really good but of course you can go with more effect you can just use this as like a reverb or echo it gets like some cool low-fi reverb echo sounds for like vocal and stuff like that so really dope as well so i like that next you have the noise which we all know a noise is we love noise and one thing i like about the noise in the retro fight is that it has so many different type of noise from cassette digital electronic effect um mechanical uh and you got synth and vinyl so basically different type of noise and a lot of these low-fi plug-ins don't really have that many type of noise because they're usually emulating one type of noise maybe it's vinyl cassette tape or whatever this one gives you the ability to pretty much you know use whatever you want you know so uh we'll play some noise you do have a threshold ducking level you have it pre or post the space and gated or ducking as well which is really dope so that way it doesn't constantly you know like if it's on ducking it just ducks when the audio comes in um and gayden actually gates it out which is really good so let's go and play with the noise and we'll just you know bring the level up and you can hear the different type of noises [Music] so [Music] so honestly i really do like the noises in here that's probably one of my favorite parts of this is the noises because you get so many of them there's some down here i haven't even heard before especially when you get to like the synth the effects uh in electrical you get some really interesting noise so really good for sound designing apparently um but you know of course it's good to have different type of noises i do love the vinyl noise in here the cassette noises are okay but the viral noises and all the special other ones out there i really do like would have been nice seeing tight but i guess cassette would be kind of like tape so it is and then you got the mechanics which basically is your wobble so basically you want your warble wobble you know you wobble wobble man jokes uh you got that right there so i'm gonna turn that down and you get that kind of low-fi wobble effect [Music] so [Music] and it's kind of cool you actually get like two different walls you get y a and y b which is nice and cool um i think it would have been better if they had just the wall and then probably like flutter or something like that um but you know having two kind of cooling gets a cool instant uh effects right there that's pretty dope but like i would have liked to see maybe do wow and flutter but you know i mean like you two wild which you know hey they do what they want to and then at the bottom part you have the input volume of course so you can drive a little harder if you want things you know break up a little better you got your output and you got this low pass high pass which you all know what that is [Music] cut your lows or cut your highs um i seem to always use the low pass the low passes to me is always going to be what i use especially with low-fi high-pass not so much and you have a mono knot which you can make it fully stereos to the right if you turn it to the left it goes mono so [Music] and actually making it mono sounds really good so in some cases you might want to turn things completely mono especially like drum buzzers something like that you can so let me actually go to my drum buss matter of fact i don't think i have it on my drums and but they ain't got no percussion in there so no really hard hitting percussion so i can't really show you like how the compressor works but you get the idea right there so now i'm gonna go to the master channel and we're actually gonna play some presets and i'll give you my final thoughts about this so i'm about to go here and i'm just gonna play through some of the presets you can resize this gui which i'm glad to make it mortar stuff resizable because you know in the past this stuff wasn't so let's go through some of these and just go through some of these presets and see what we got so we'll go with the we'll start with the artists and we'll just start from yeah there's so many of them and then we'll just you know go through different presets and just kind of hear what the presets going on [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] so dang i would say you know go through and actually mess around with it play with yourself you can't get the demo of course there's a third day i don't think the third day but you can't get a limited time demo to try it out and see something you like now my thoughts about lo retro fight like it's a dope pretty much a dope low five plug i don't have no complaints really about it um the gui is kind of cool i've seen people saying it looks like a mungus um like you know old school um like comic book stuff like that which i kind of like i mean it's very creative very playful very different i mean just you know having more fun i'm making the standard kind of make it look like a cassette player or something like that at least to just take it outside the box a little bit with it um i do like it i mean i would like i said i would like to see other things maybe like let's say i would like to see flutter instead of two wires um i wish i had a little bit more control with the eq curve as well maybe like a advanced tab you kind of mess with some more um other than that i mean it's a simple low five plugin now is it better than other lo-fi plug-ins out there that's kind of hard to say uh it depends on how much spin i said right now this plug-in is 30 bucks so it is in that cheaper range um there are free ones of course there are some that are a little bit cheaper some that are way more expensive we all know the one that everybody uses that's super expensive but i feel like it fits in a good place if you don't have a lo-fi plug-in and you want something different this is it or especially if you have most low-fi plugs don't have reverb and echo in them so this could be one to put in your arsenal for just the reverb echo itself because i mean i said you can use it just as a reverb and echo plug-in and it's really good or you could just buy the low-fi space but you know it is what it is um it's your choice how you feel but yeah i think it's a good plugin something to look at i said try it out first before you buy it of course link in description below to this plug-in the wave sales give them why they hot right now right now two plugins two plug-ins free come on you better get that deal before it goes away so yeah with that being said y'all know who it is your boyfriend aka mrs different not muted by the money but the like comment script and views let me know what you guys think about this plugin do you already have it have you copied how you think you might get it let me know down below use my links you know help support the channel
