In this video I’m showing one of my all-time favorite things I ever trained Mila to do: a “front” command that works like a cleaner, more controlled recall. Instead of calling “come” and hoping your dog wanders in somewhere near you, “front” means my dog comes straight to me, lands directly in front of my body, and finishes with a sit. It’s simple, but it changes everything when recall isn’t reliable—especially for distracted sniffers. I start super close with a sit/stay, then cue movement (at first you can still use “come” if that’s all your dog knows) and immediately guide them into position. Treats are non-negotiable here—I literally had to stop and go grab them because you want lots of quick rewards while your dog is learning the pattern. Once we’re getting consistent wins, I add hand gestures (my hand signal for “sit”) and I build distance one step at a time—one foot back after each success. We practice inside first, then take the exact same game outside with real distractions, keeping it positive, structured, and doable.
