Jocelyn Cheiw is director of the City Design Studio at the City of Melbourne. Jocelyn has the amazing job of 'designing the city' - everything from small details of public realm, to big strategies and precincts, and fun things like the brilliant 'Rocks on Wheels' playground at Southbank. Jocelyn has also set up the Melbourne Design Review Panel, reviewing proposals for major projects in the city. She is also a great model of the ‘public designer’ – working not in private practice, but in the public sector. This talk was part of the ‘Removing Barriers, Beyond the Classroom’ series, for the students of Architecture Design Thesis at Melbourne School of Design. This series is intended to point toward life after uni, by introducing students to inspiring thinkers and do-ers who are working in different ways.
