Australia - Asia Dialogue for Urban Innovation: Urban Renewal

The Seminar Series of “Australia-Asia Dialogue for Urban Innovation” focuses on innovative urban approaches to critical global challenges that require collective actions for current and future generations. This series will contribute to establishing research network and sharing knowledge with leading academic institutions in Australia and Asia. These quarterly events will seek evidence-based policy practices for urban innovation in Australia and Asia. Urban renewal is the theme of the first series of seminars. This idea begins with rapid urbanization, often not balanced by the construction of adequate urban facilities. This encourages the government to carry out urban renewal or redevelopment processes of an area within the city, such as revitalizing underutilized spaces aimed at creating new infrastructure and restoring economic viability in the area, so that this will attract greater private and public investment. However, the different complexities of the problem involving various stakeholders in each city provide an exciting point in comprehensively understanding the issue of urban renewal. Therefore, this first seminar was held by inviting Dr. Hyungmin Kim, Assoc. Prof. Paul J. Maginn and Dr. Redento Recio discussed the practice of urban renewal in South Korea, Australia, and the Philippines. Dr. Sidh Sintusingha will be moderator in the Q&As session.
