I walked 10,000 steps a day for a month in the cold Canadian winter, and here's what happened and what I learned. ======== 🚨 LINKS: ======== (as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases with no extra cost to you) πŸ”— FitBit Charge 5 on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3smZ9wm πŸ”— Apple Watch SE on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3JadRhl πŸ”— Apple Watch Series 7 on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3B1346a πŸ”— Renpho Smart Scale I use daily on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3q5Nrq6 ============ TIMESTAMPS ============ 0:00 - Intro 0:37 - We've all been tricked for 70 years 1:36 - Why I walked 10k steps per day 2:30 - Time & Distance walking metrics 3:20 - Know your body with daily walking 4:13 - How to stay motivated to exercise 4:38 - Walk 10,000 steps embracing boredom 5:55 - Vo2 Max - Important health metric 7:58 - Outro Walking is such a great form of exercise, and in fitness-circles is called LISS training, or low-intensity steady-state (as opposed to HITT - high-intensity interval-training), and believe it or not, is scientifically shown to retain more muscle while burning fat than high-intensity cardio. Many of us have heard of the 10000 steps per day goal and so I decided that last month, one of the coldest months here in Toronto, Canada, I was going to walk 10,000 steps every single day in the freezing cold - both as a way to challenge myself, but also, figured that if I can push through the pain of walking in the frigid weather, I would prove to myself that I can keep doing it for the rest of year. I didn't have any specific quantitative metrics as goals, but I was so surprised to discover 5 core lessons and share them with you in this video, and maybe, you'll consider trying out walking 10,000 steps per day for yourself as well. After I walked 10,000 steps every single day, one of the most fascinating things I learned was about a health marker metric I had never heard about called Vo2 Max, and realized just how bad my current cardiovascular health is. Cardio health is vital for our longevity, energy, and overall health, and I'm so thankful that walking ten thousand steps every day for just 30 days has taught me about Vo2 Max. My current Vo2 Max is considered low... very low... falling behind the benchmark of someone 40 years older than me. It's terrifying, but also, motivating, since I improved this particular cardiovascular health marker by 25% in just a month after I walked 10000 steps a day. Walking is great for overall health, cardio, fat loss, and weight loss (while preserving more muscle than running), and best of all, it's sustainable and low-impact, and can be habituated even into your elderly years.
