I tested AirPods Max 2 against the original and the upgrades are mostly internal: the H2 chip cleans up the top end at higher volumes, improves ANC in louder environments, and makes the microphones way better for calls. You’re still getting the same heavy, premium design with average battery life, but the sound, transparency, and Apple ecosystem features are the best they’ve done on the Max line.

- -Same heavy 385g design and comfort is still limited for long sessions
- -Battery life still around 20 hours—behind competitors
- -Smart Case is unchanged and cups still don’t fold
- -Sound upgrade is incremental, especially if you already have the 2024 USB-C model
