It’s a beautiful city, known for its culture and delicious food. Today we’re touring the city, we’ll be visiting some famous attractions and also tasting the local Sheki food! #Azerbaijan #Sheki #ExperienceAzerbaijan Nuxa Restaurant - After touring around Sheki in the morning we stopped at Nuxa Restaurant, a higher end restaurant serving local Azerbaijan cuisine from Sheki. We had all the wonderful starter salad and dishes, followed by a huge array of main dishes and lamb, and a chicken in soup with an omelet on top. My favorite dish is the lamb with herbs. Azizoghlu Sweets - You can’t visit Sheki without trying Sheki halvasi, or the local style of baklava. It’s a rice batter that’s fried in a lattice shape until there are 36 layers. The batter is then layered in a pan with hazelnuts and spices and drenched in sugar syrup. It’s a huge part of the culture and something often served with tea in Sheki. The process of making it was very cool. MinAli Boutique Hotel (https://goo.gl/maps/iaQAp1mvLKYmz9BX8) - During our time in Sheki we stayed at MinAli Boutique Hotel, a lovely family run hotel with amazing staff. The owner of they hotel, his Mother cooked us a dish you have to eat when you’re in Sheki - Sheki Piti (which is very similar to dizi in Iran). The dish includes chickpeas and lamb cooked until fall apart tender. You eat the soup with bread and then mash up the chickpeas and lamb. What took it to the next level for me were the onions and the sour cherry sauce. We had an amazing day eating our way through Sheki, Azerbaijan!
