Buy BRIO TRAINS on Amazon: https://amzn.to/461wS2C (affiliate link) I recently picked up the BRIO Bell Wagon (33749), and unfortunately, my experience was not what I expected from a brand with BRIO’s reputation. The idea is charming: a wooden wagon with a mounted bell that rings as it’s pulled along the track. On paper, it sounds like the kind of fun, whimsical accessory that makes BRIO special. In practice though, the bell simply doesn’t work the way it should. Mine either rattled faintly or didn’t make any sound at all. At first, I assumed I had just received a defective piece, but after digging around online, I discovered that many other customers have run into the same problem. That makes it clear this is more of a widespread flaw than an isolated issue. The wagon is made in China, and the overall build quality feels off compared to older BRIO products. The mechanism that’s supposed to strike the bell isn’t reliable, which leaves kids disappointed when the main feature—the bell ringing—doesn’t happen. This is especially frustrating because BRIO has such a strong heritage of making durable, reliable toys when manufacturing was based in Sweden. Those older products hold up even after decades, which makes the decline in quality even more noticeable here. For parents considering this accessory, I would honestly suggest skipping it. It looks nice enough in the box, but once it’s on the track, the bell doesn’t deliver. There are plenty of other BRIO wagons and accessories that perform as expected and bring more joy to a layout. If BRIO ever decides to revisit this design or return to higher-quality production, I’d be open to giving it another try. But as it stands now, the Bell Wagon is a disappointment.
