PADI Divemaster Course - I WON it for FREE!

Winning this PADI Divemaster Course was the beginning of a once in a lifetime adventure for me! Not only did I just won a PADI Divemaster Course, I could do the PADI Divemaster Course at Sairee Cottage Diving on Koh Tao - One of the best Dive Centres in the World! To apply you just had to take a one minute video and write a blogpost! So I did that. Instead of working properly on some essays for Uni, I wrote about how much I would love to take this once in a lifetime chance and about experiencing this whole new beautiful and diverse underwater world in my Open Water Course five years ago. Facts like male seahorses giving birth or giant garbage patches twice as big as Germany in our oceans simply left me stunned. After being selected in their top 3 favorites, I had a video call with Sairee Cottage Diving course director Marcel. I remember being super nervous, but apparently I did well, because a few days later, I got the glorious message that I actually WON! I was shaking and I couldn’t stop laughing – I’ve never won anything before and now THAT! After that I started looking for flights as soon as I had figured out when I would be able to leave Germany without missing too much Uni. I managed to book my flights so that I could leave Germany directly after the semester has ended. which means I will return from sunny, hot Koh Tao to cold, dark, almost winter Germany, but that’s way ahead of me right now! On Sunday the 22nd of July I finally set out for my big adventure. In Bangkok I took a ride with a taxi boat on the river and visited the impressive temple Wat Arun, walked through Khao San road and couldn’t stop sweating at all! In the evening my journey continued via bus and ferry. Almost 40 hours after I left home I finally arrived on Koh Tao, but the beauty and peace of this island made up for this. So I took a nice walk to Sairee Cottage Diving. After a very warm welcome, I spend the rest of my day with the other Divemaster Trainees and was already looking forward to my Scuba-Review the next day. On the next day my Buddy Filip and I started our Advanced Open Water Course. Together with Tina and Dries, Seol and our instructor Kaylie, we learned some theory about dive computers, buoyancy, compasses and navigation. We then applied them at Buoyancy World and Chumpon at a depth of about 12 meters. It was super fun turning and flipping in the water – ever though it’s harder than it looks! Because diving can be very tiring as well, we were really thankful for the fried rice the boat boy served us when we got back onboard. It has been a great and funny first day on the Sairee Cottage boat and in the ocean again. Our second dive-day brought some misfortune. After diving to 30 meters (which was very interesting because colors change a lot with less sunlight and also very funny because I got gas narcosis which makes you act a little drunk) the GoPro I was using to collect footage dissolved from its stick and sank to 40 meters where it’s probably still waiting for someone to pick it up – fingers crossed! So my first days at Sairee Cottage Diving on beautiful Koh Tao had their ups and downs, but definitely way more ups! Everybody I have met so far is amazing, open-minded and helpful.
