Long Term Review - 6 Months later! I purchased this Yamaha BB435 5-string electric bass new from Granata Music here in Ottawa. It is well built, looks great and has some pretty awesome features... and the price can't be beat! I paid $700 CDN and I know they are $599USD stateside new. Alder body, 5 piece maple and mahogany neck, convertible bridge with angled string thru body, custom YGD alnico PJ pickups, rosewood fingerboard, 18mm string spacing and a painted headstock. 10" radius fingerboard and it plays really smooth. Check one out at your local music store - you won't be disappointed! -Steve www.manotickstringworks.com Ottawa, Ontario Purchase my String & Pickup height gauges here: https://manotickstringworks.com/collections/all Granata music Ottawa & online: https://www.granatamusic.com/

About This Video

In this video I’m doing a quick long-term update on my Yamaha BB435 5‑string bass after about six or seven months of owning it, gigging it regularly, and using it for recording. I run through the features that actually matter on the bench and on stage: the slim multi‑piece neck, the passive PJ setup, the ultra‑light tuners, and that convertible bridge with the angled string‑through-body design (plus the stepped-back B string area for better intonation room). I also point out a couple of my own mods—brass saddles (mostly because I like the look) and Dunlop strap locks, which I run on basically everything. Since I’m a setup guy, I check where the bass is sitting right now without “freshening it up” first. Neck relief is still right around 0.008" at the 7th fret, and the action is hovering around 5/64" at the 17th—pretty low for a bass without getting into crazy buzz territory. Nut action is about 0.020"–0.022" at the first fret, which is where I like it. Overall, I’m very happy with it: tuning stability is solid for rock and roll, the passive VVT controls are simple and reliable, and my only real complaint is a slightly bouncy pickup cover that needs a little foam/spring fix.
