Oh, hey there—welcome back to Manotick StringWorks. In this video I’ve got a really eye-catching 2022 Made in Mexico Fender Telecaster Player Series Special Edition on the bench in what Fender calls Shell Pink. The owner picked it up as new old stock and brought it in for a few specific upgrades: a pickup swap to a ToneRider Alnico 2 Blues Tele set, a nut change to a Graph Tech (or bone) nut, and a proper setup to deal with buzzing—especially up in the upper frets. I’d already done a setup on it and got it playing without the obvious buzz, but there’s still something going on with the low E (sixth string) that I’m not satisfied with. My plan is to build a bit of fall-away into the upper frets by dressing them down slightly—pretty common on Teles and Strats—so it stays clean up high and doesn’t come back with the same complaint later. I also chat a bit about the modern individual saddles on this Tele and how people get pretty heated about vintage vs modern hardware. This is basically the intro to a short series where I’ll focus on the pickups, the fall-away work, the nut swap, and then the full setup.
