Does measuring your guitar string height at different frets matter? It does if you want consistent, reproducible results. Fender says to measure the string action at the 17th fret; Gibson says to measure the string action at the 12th fret. As long as you measure it at the same place each time, you wont have any problems. The height will vary depending where on the neck you measure it.
