A well known remedy for coughs and colds, this version of rasam has tamarind, garlic, tomato and toor (pigeon peas lentils). Fiery, soothing and sinus busting this is what I drink when I feel a lurgy coming. There are many versions of rasam, which is a wonderful lightweight South Indian dish, but this is my go to. My spice blend is: 2 tbsp toor dal (Indian pigeon pea) 2 tbsp coriander seeds 10 red chillies (add more if you can stomach it!) 2.5 tsp cumin seeds 1 tsp black peppercorns Dry roast in order and store extra for later! I cooked a cup of toot lentils, soaked a ping pong size ball of tamarind and used a third, stashed the rest in the freezer. #naturalremedies #foodismedicine #rasam #southindianfoods
