In this MakeHaven training video, I walk you through the basics of designing, slicing, and printing on our Prusa fleet—the Mini+, the MK3S+, and the XL. The reason we lean so hard on Prusa in the shop is consistency: PLA is inexpensive, prints quickly, and if you learn one system you can move between these three different build sizes without re-learning everything. I start with how these machines actually work (PLA filament heated and pushed through a nozzle like a controlled hot glue gun), then jump into how you get from an idea to an STL—whether you’re downloading from Thingiverse, modeling simple parts in TinkerCAD, or doing more advanced shapes in Fusion 360. From there I go deep enough in PrusaSlicer to get you printing confidently: choosing the right printer preset (including the XL 2-tool with the 0.6mm nozzle), orienting parts to reduce supports, understanding layer height vs. print time, and using supports (including organic supports) when you need them. Then I show the real-world workflow: exporting G-code, loading PLA correctly (snip the mushroomed tip, feed cleanly), cleaning the bed with isopropyl alcohol, and sending jobs through OctoPrint. The biggest takeaway is simple: watch your first layer. If it’s “smooshed” just right, your odds of a successful print go way up—don’t just hit print and walk away.
