About This Video

In this episode of “Time to Sew with Regina,” I’m back with more hands-on sewing basics—starting with a quick redo of sewing on a button, but this time without a needle threader. I show how I like to use thread braids (great when you don’t want to buy a whole spool for one repair), how I knot cleanly with a small tail, and why I’m constantly flipping the fabric over to check that my stitches are landing right next to the knot—not “down the street.” I also cover a shank-style button setup for thicker coats, where you purposely hold the button up off the fabric and wrap the thread to build that little “stem” so the button doesn’t pop off. Then I move to what most folks came for: threading a sewing machine (the MakeHaven shop machine in this case). I walk through the numbered thread path, why the thread should feed from the back, and what happens when you miss a guide (especially the up-down lever—your machine just won’t sew right). I also show how I load the bobbin case, catch the bobbin thread by turning the handwheel forward (clockwise only), and how I check that both threads pull smoothly before I start stitching.
