In this badging video for the pottery area at MakeHaven, I walk you through our whole little pottery corner so you can use it safely and leave it clean for the next person. I start at the wedging table—how to keep it spotless so dry bits don’t get worked into your clay—and why wedging matters (bubbles can explode in the kiln and ruin your piece). I also cover the clay we sell (cone 6 stoneware with medium grog), where trimmings go, what lives on the shelves (drying, bisque-ready, glaze-ready, and pickup), and the basics of labeling so your work doesn’t get tossed after a week. From there I get into wheel setup and cleanup: using bats so you can lift work off easily, keeping hair/jewelry/sleeves out of the spinning zone, and pulling the trays to rinse at the slop sink. The big theme is dust control—clay dust is bad for lungs over time—so everything gets wiped with a wet sponge, and floors get mopped if needed. Finally, I cover kiln fundamentals: cone terminology (cone 6 vs cone 06), bisque vs glaze firings, costs and how we log/split them on the tablet, and the safety basics (vent fan on, sign up, peephole plugs in, don’t touch the bricks/elements, and don’t open until it’s under 150°F).
