In this video I walk you through MakeHaven—our community makerspace in downtown New Haven, CT—and show you what it looks like when you put “design, invent, and create” under one roof. The easiest way to understand the place is to literally walk around and see the range: homebrewing and coffee roasting, screen printing and letterpress, a bio initiative where members work with things like mushroom mycelium and algae, plus a media room for podcasts and recordings. I also tour the core fabrication areas: 3D printing (including resin for high detail, nylon with chopped carbon fiber, and a fleet of PLA printers), electronics benches for soldering and inspection, and a full textiles setup with an embroidery CNC, heavy-duty machines for denim/leather, quilting, knitting, and layout space. From there we get into the big shops—woodworking with everything from jointer/planer/drum sander to CNC routers, and a machine shop that makes people say “wow,” with Bridgeport mills, metal lathes, a waterjet cutter, welding (TIG/MIG/oxyacetylene), plasma cutting, and even an induction forge. The big takeaway: MakeHaven is “no experience required” (adult, 18+), because we have volunteers who help you get started. Membership gives you access to the space, plus we’ve got storage, a tool lending library, and community extras like a kitchen and an outdoor patio with a pizza oven.
