In this video I walk through the Tippmann 1500 die press clicker cutter we use at MakeHaven. It’s a pretty simple machine: two platens squeeze together with about 30,000 lbs (15 tons) of force, and it’s air-powered. I show you the basics—turning the rear ball valve on (in line with the pipe means air can flow), using the correct base tray, and sliding your material and die into position like a big cookie cutter. I also break down what’s inside a steel rule die: the steel rule itself (basically a long razor blade), creasing bars, and the rubber/foam ejection pieces that help pop your cut parts out. This setup can cut foam, rubber, fabric, paper, cardboard, leather—anything flat you want to duplicate a bunch of times. I demo it with stacked paper so it cuts cleanly, and you can see the cut lines and crease lines that fold into an envelope. A key takeaway is die thickness: you want a die that’s 0.937" thick for this setup. If it’s thicker, you risk stamping the blades permanently into the board, which we definitely don’t want. I also cover the two-hand safety actuation (because it will absolutely pulverize body parts), and the shutdown routine: clean scraps, turn off air, and actuate a few times to bleed off pressure.
