In this video I walk through the basic, safe way to use a Class II Type A2 Biological Safety Cabinet (Microzone BK-2-4). I explain what it’s for—working with microbiological materials or anything you want to keep sterile—and how it actually protects you and your work. The cabinet draws in room air with a blower and directs airflow toward the rear grill, so one of the biggest “do not mess this up” points is keeping that back grill completely clear and unobstructed. I also cover the practical routine that keeps contamination down: start with a cabinet that’s sterile, then keep it that way. I use 70% ethanol or 70% isopropanol to spray and wipe down the interior, and I wipe down everything before it goes inside. I show the basic controls (fan/blower, power, light) and note that UV can be dangerous—so we don’t use that capability in our lab. Finally, I call out labeling and disposal: anything left in the cabinet needs clear labels (material, name, date, contact), and if you’re unsure how to dispose of something, ask the facilitator—options may include 10% bleach or autoclaving depending on what you’re working with.
