I tested the SwitchBot S20 after years of being a robot-vac holdout, and it’s the one that finally made the “robot vacuum is for upkeep” idea click. It’s great on hard floors, does vacuum + mop in the same run (and lifts the mop for rugs), and the Matter support means it actually belongs in my Apple Home setup.
Pros
- +Great upkeep cleaning on hard surfaces
- +Vacuum + mop in one session; lifts mop when approaching rugs
- +Base station with clean/dirty water tanks lasted about a month for me
- +Matter compatible, so it can be added to Apple Home scenes/automations
- +Edge sensing worked on my step-downs without falling
Cons
- -Doesn’t replace an upright vacuum, especially for embedded pet hair in carpet
- -Mopping can be spotty/streaky and won’t handle heavy marks perfectly
- -Can get confused switching floors/maps and may yell to be put back down
- -Too loud for watching TV in the same room
- -Requires consumables like dust bags every few months
