Philips Hue A19 (updated)
The updated Hue A19 now supports Matter over Thread too, and I used it as the baseline against the new Essential bulb. On paper it has better specs (wider color temperature range and a bit more brightness), but in Apple Home the real-world differences were smaller than you’d think. The biggest thing I noticed was how dim it can get at the lowest levels.
Pros
- +Supports Matter over Thread and can join a Thread network
- +Wider color temperature range than the Essential bulb
- +Hue-level color quality and stability (especially when used with the Bridge)
Cons
- -Very dim at the low end in my side-by-side testing
- -Pairing via Matter means no Hue app access
- -Adaptive Lighting in Apple Home was not supported over Matter in my testing
