About This Video

In this video, I’m coloring in two of my journals side by side and comparing two very different approaches: watercolor in one, and just a single marker in the other. While I paint and fill in the pages, I chat through what each medium feels like in an illustrated journaling context—how they behave on the page, what kind of look they give you, and what makes each one more (or less) relaxing depending on your mood and time. Watercolor is such a lovely choice when I want soft blends and that cozy, painterly vibe, but it can come with a little more setup and waiting time. The one-marker approach is the opposite: super quick, simple, and honestly kind of freeing because the limitation makes decisions easier. If you’ve ever felt stuck choosing supplies or you want a low-pressure way to add color to your weekly spreads and journal pages, this is a fun experiment to try. I also share where you can grab my Cat Collage Club printables if you want ready-to-use elements for your own pages.
