I also talk about the “fixed window” reality—what you gain, what you give up, and who this cabin truly works for. I also cover the stuff people don’t always mention when they’re selling you on an upgrade: noise considerations on a lower deck, how comfortable the cabin feels when you’re unpacked, and whether it’s worth paying more for a balcony on a European river cruise. My big takeaway is simple: if you’re the kind of cruiser who’s out on excursions, in the lounge, or enjoying meals instead of hanging out in your room, Category D can be a smart value. But if natural light and that open feeling are a priority, you’ll want to think hard about moving up a category.
