Purple Hammer 78d
The Purple Hammer 78D is basically the harder 78D-style cover you know, but with a stronger core that actually flares, so it can dig in a different way than a lot of the other 78 hardness options. For me it reads the lane earlier and harder than the Black, then can lay off a bit downlane, so it’s a great “step up” when the Black is close but not quite enough.

Pros
- +Reads the fronts and mids harder than the Black 78D
- +Flares, which helps it keep getting traction
- +Useful step-up option when other 78D urethane isn’t strong enough early
Cons
- -Not a replacement for the original Purple Hammer shape
- -Can lay off/soften downlane compared to the Black’s more gradual build
- -Not a ball you’re going to bend a ton from deep inside like the original Purple
