It means “Long live the revolution,” and is often used to refer to the French Revolution. Beginning in the year 1789, French citizens rebelled against their king to demand better political representation. Ultimately, they were successful, and officially abolished the monarchy on September 21st 1792.   Another history-making event happened on September 8th, 1883 in the United States when the Northern Pacific Railroad was completed. This railroad connected the eastern and western parts of the country, and had a huge impact on US culture and society. Instead of taking months, traveling across the country took only a few days.
