Did you know that guinea pigs can walk right after they are born? And that they make different sounds depending on how they feel? Today, in this video for kids, we are going to learn more about guinea pigs! Guinea pigs are small rodents with round bodies, short legs, and no tails. They have soft fur in many colors, including white, brown, and black. Their ears are small and round, and their eyes are large and bright. Guinea pigs have sharp incisors that never stop growing, so they need to chew on food and objects to keep their teeth from getting too long. They have sensitive whiskers that help them feel their surroundings and use their strong back legs to jump short distances when needed. Guinea pigs originally come from South America, where they live in grassy and rocky regions. In the wild, they dig small burrows or hide under bushes to stay safe from predators. They are social animals and live in small groups called herds. These herds help protect them from danger because more eyes can better watch for predators. Guinea pigs use sounds like squeaks and chirps to communicate with each other and warn their group of threats. We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about Guinea pigs!
