This is where you can pick up the SMSL DAC Mini — the Mac Mini-sized DAC I reviewed in the video. I love the concept and the Mac-matching design, plus the power-button lever is a legit quality-of-life upgrade. Just be aware the big deal-breaker for many people is WiFi interference when it’s stacked under the Mac Mini, so I only recommend it if you’re on Ethernet.

Pros

  • +Designed to stack neatly under a Mac Mini with a matching finish
  • +Clean, detailed ESS-style sound with better detail and stage than the Mac Mini jack
  • +Supports up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD256
  • +Includes a clever lever to press the Mac Mini power button

Cons

  • -Causes WiFi interference and can reduce WiFi speeds when stacked
  • -Early firmware had macOS volume stuck at full output and updates required Windows
  • -Limited output power from USB and may struggle with low-impedance planars
  • -RCA outputs play simultaneously with headphones (no easy mute)
