Most snakes in captivity don’t die suddenly… they decline slowly. In this video, we break down the 10 most common snake care mistakes that are slowly killing your snake, based on real reptile biology, husbandry science, and years of experience. These aren’t obvious mistakes. They’re the small things that build up over time, affecting your snake’s hydration, digestion, immune system, stress levels, and long-term health without you even realizing it. If you keep snakes, this is information you need to understand. In this video we cover: • improper temperature and thermal gradients • chronic dehydration and humidity mistakes • feeding errors and metabolic stress • digestion issues and post-feeding mistakes • enclosure stress and lack of security • airflow and respiratory health • environmental instability • ignoring early warning signs • choosing the wrong snake or bad breeder • misunderstanding species-specific care Snakes are highly specialized ectothermic predators, meaning their entire biology depends on correct environmental conditions. When those conditions are even slightly off over long periods of time, it leads to chronic stress, disease, and eventual decline. Most keepers don’t realize there’s a problem until it’s too late. This channel focuses on science-based reptile care, snake behavior, ethical husbandry, and helping keepers actually understand their animals so both the keeper and the reptile can succeed. 🐍 Support the mission and rep the community https://snakefactory.store If you want real reptile education without misinformation or toxicity, subscribe and learn how to actually do this the right way. ---------------------------------------------- Welcome to LC Royal Scales Syndicate, where reptile education meets real-world experience. About This Video

Most people aren’t killing their snake in one big dramatic moment—they’re doing it slowly. In this video, I break down the 10 mistakes that chip away at hydration, digestion, immune function, and long-term health while the keeper thinks everything is “fine,” because snakes are unbelievably good at surviving bad conditions until they can’t. I’m not here to shame anybody. I’m here to talk reality: reptiles decline quiet, and “alive” is not the same thing as thriving. We go from the very beginning—buying the wrong snake from the wrong person (starting with an animal that’s already behind, parasite loaded, dehydrated, or stressed)—all the way through chronic dehydration, feeding errors (overfeeding, underfeeding, wrong prey size, bad prey prep), and not respecting digestion as a real temperature-dependent physiology event. I also cover the stuff people love to overlook: improper heat as “unusable heat” (no real thermal opportunity), chronic exposure and lack of security (open layouts, bright enclosures, oversized hides), bad airflow (stagnant vs ventilated-to-death), and the damage caused by constantly changing the enclosure. The biggest takeaway is simple: most “sudden” snake losses aren’t sudden—they’re accumulation. A hundred small biological mismatches add up, and the fix is learning your actual species, reading early warning signs, and building stable, secure, species-accurate conditions that your snake can actually use.
