Think boas are too big or hard to care for? Think again! Most boas reach 6-8 feet, only slightly larger than ball pythons. Their husbandry needs are surprisingly similar, with minor differences in humidity and vertical temperature gradients. About This Video

In this short I’m breaking down two of the biggest myths I hear nonstop: “boas get way too big” and “boas are way harder than ball pythons.” Yes, boas get longer—but the reality is people wildly exaggerate it. Most common boas land around 6–8 feet (my boy Krueger is about 6.5–7), while ball pythons average 4–5 feet. That’s usually a 2–3 foot difference, and it doesn’t happen overnight—you’re not dealing with a full-grown boa until about year 6 to 8. If that timeline sounds “too fast,” stop power feeding your animals. I also hit the husbandry truth: ball pythons and boas are a lot more similar than people want to admit. Ball pythons typically thrive around 60–65% humidity (75–80% during shed), while boas generally prefer 70–75% (80–85% during shed). Temperature gradients are nearly identical with proper warm and cool zones, but the biggest difference is that boas use the vertical axis—they like it a bit warmer up top where they can climb and bask. So no, boas aren’t “harder,” people are usually just misunderstanding their natural behavior.
