In this live Ball Python & Snake Q&A, I’m hanging out with my boy Art the Snake—fresh out of a shed and looking absolutely show-ready. I talk through what he is (a Boa imperator, “common boa,” IMG Motley 100% het VPI), how big he is (about 6.5–7 feet, around 5–6 pounds), and why he’s such a “puppy dog tame” powerhouse in my collection. I also clear up common confusion I see all the time: he’s not a ball python, he’s not venomous, and snakes don’t “love” people—they learn to trust you when you remove stress and handle them correctly. I answer beginner questions like how to make your snake calmer (remove stress factors, be consistent, let them learn your scent—yes, put your t-shirt in the enclosure), when to handle a new snake (leave them alone 10–14 days), and what to do if you get tagged by something like a kingsnake (stay calm and end the session on a good note). I also get into husbandry science—especially humidity and shedding—because if you’re fighting stuck shed, your setup is telling on you. I explain my ready-to-go substrate method (fiber, bark, cocoa husk), why I stopped using certain beddings due to mite risk, and how I keep my snakes consistently shedding in one piece.
